Spring in California is a floral bonanza, especially during a super bloom. Entire hillsides and even vast expanses of desert are, at times, covered with wildflowers. When conditions are just right the profusion of color has been recorded by satellites in space. The spring bloom typically begins in the most southern areas of the state and at lower elevations. Then as temperatures increase the bloom spreads north into the central and northern areas. Much of the colorful display is gone by mid May, but wildflowers can still be found through the summer months in the Sierras. All of this beauty makes for a photographers paradise.
